Plants vs. Zombies is one of the most popular and overall greatest arcade games of all time. Grow plants that can help you fend off a mob of zombies invading your house.
Graphics and Sound 9/10
One of the best things about Plants vs. Zombies is its distinct visual style that has become almost iconic since the original release. There is just so much humor and detail you can’t help but fall in love with the game right from the start. And every unit has a unique appearance that matches its abilities, so you can easily remember them even without checking the Almanac. The sound effects are also superb, and the soundtrack is great and memorable – which is pretty rare for an arcade game.
The controls are not that simplistic, but the interface seems to be as intuitive as it gets. Most of your screen is taken by a field – actually, a literal field on which your plants can grow. All of the units available are listed on the left side of the screen, and zombies come from the right side. Your job is simple: choose a plant with just a tap – and tap once again to plant it somewhere on the field.
Plants vs. Zombies is probably the most successful attempt to combine arcades and strategies that has resulted in extremely addictive gameplay with lots of features. The game has 49 types of plants and 26 various types of hostile zombies that try to invade your house across 50 unique levels. There are also lots of power-ups and bonus items that can be purchased with coins, many achievements to unlock, and so on.
Lasting Appeal 8/10
The game is definitely built to last. With 50 levels of Adventure mode and endless zombie waves of Survival mode, Plants vs. Zombies isn’t going to become boring or too easy for weeks, if not months. And there is just so much room for experiments with strategy – and don’t forget the achievements, too. All in all, this game is a great way to keep yourself entertained for a long.
Plants vs. Zombies is simply one of the best mobile arcades out there, and it’s completely free. Of course, it’s not without its problems such as occasional bugs or in-app purchases, but it’s still a milestone that can’t just be ignored. Just make sure you don’t get too addicted to this game.
